Yay! Finally we’re getting close! I held off on really getting started with this blog until it looked like the dream of my referral was really within reach. Well, it looks like the wait to meet my precious daughter is drawing to an end. I heard the best news late last week. It is VERY likely that the next set of child assignments are coming out on Monday or Tuesday and “rumor” has it that it is a large “batch”. While I would hate to jinx it, it does look like the next set of referrals after this one will include mine!! Later I will explain a little how more how the process works for those of you who might not know. For now though, let me share how this all came to be. ……
Why Adoption? Why Not?
For anyone who knows anything about me, they know I LOVE children and have for many years surrounded myself with little ones no matter where I was. I truly feel as though I love my niece and nephew along with my girlfriends children as though they are my own. I never imagined I would be X # of years old and not a mommy yet but God knew different. So after years of talking about the possibility of adopting as a single mom, my dear friend Kelly said, “Why don’t you just do it?”. That was April 2005, so after discussing it more with my mom, praying for a sign from God, and reading and watching everything I could find about single parent adoption, I did it! On July 18th, 2005 I submitted my application to adopt a baby girl from China.
The Process….
After that, the process involved the “paper chase” to get all necessary documents required by my adoption agency and the Chinese Center for Adoption Affairs. Such paperwork included medical clearance, Financial Reports, Home Studies, Photos, Birth certificates, letters of reference, and the list goes on. All official documents had to be notarized, certified and authenticated for accuracy and truth. These documents had to be sent to my adoption agency which is located near Philadelphia. China received and documented the paperwork and acknowledged this by issuing me with a Log in Date, hereafter referred to as my LID. This very important date for me is January 23, 2006.
The Wait…….
After my log in date was issued, the waiting for my referral began. A referral is the photo and paper documentation of the child matched with a family for adoption. Once I accept my match, I will then wait for travel dates.
At the time of my LID, I expected to wait about 10 months – traveling to China in approximately October of 2006. Sadly, the process is now taking longer than expected. The GOOD NEWS is though that it sounds like this week China will refer children whose adopting parents have application dates of January 13 thru January 22nd, 2006. That means, I am next in July’s batch! I just can’t wait. So rather than have to call each of you daily with updates, although I certainly will if you would like, I thought I could keep everyone posted through this blog so you will know how much longer our wait will be. Let’s throw a GIANT prayer up to God that the wait is finally drawing to an end.

Wow, that is so great. I had no idea the process was so long. Especially considering there are so many orphaned children in China that need homes.
